Home Page Pays Review: IS It As Good As They Say?
There is starting to be a lot of talk online regarding a new social site called Home Page Pays. Fair amount of excited members but what’s the real deal here.
For one just like Pinterest it’s an invite only site. Seems like this is starting to be the norm now.. Which you either love or hate. The only way to find out if it’s any good or not was get myself an invite which I did. After joining Home Page Pays as a member I wasn’t to fussed with it.
Sure there are some good qualities as it stands now, but no social aspects to be seen. IS that going to change? One way to find out, do some research!
After attending a webinar (plenty of links online will get you to one) I found it is going to change, when is the big question that seems to be asked a fair bit. Guess nothing was built in a day and you can’t rush coding and security (spoken about on the webinar)
I am not a programmer nor script writer so cannot give you my opinion on that reason.
The big question is what sets this social site or what will set it apart from any other social site out there? Is it really going to take off like Pinterest did or Facebook and Twitter? In my personal view, nope not until those social aspects are in then its a case of either we will love it or hate it.
What can you gain now though? Home Page Pays has a free and paid member reward program. Paid is more a business side where you buy a licensed package to add your own info to etc.
Let me explain. With Facebook or Twitter or any Social Site you log into the main url with your details eg facebook.com With Home Page Pays you log in on your own url. You may be wondering why the heck you do that as apposed to the other way round. It’s due to the reward programs attached to the social site for members. And this is where the paid member program comes into play. Paid members can promote their business to you the free member. Will they slam you with junk? Who knows! From what I saw on the webinar, no BUT they will be able to “blast” out information to their free member data base by the in house mail system. One presumes you will be able to opt out of anyone blasting you with junk!
SO we know there is a paid members program that amounts to a home business. But what about free members and the social site overall.
Free members do have a reward program, nothing new to that setup. Most web 2.o sites such as Squidoo and Hubpages all offer some type of reward to their members. I don’t know of any social site though that does this. I stand corrected if there are some rewarding their members.
Rewards for free members do not include money. Your not going to get a cut of anything paid in actual hard cold cash. So if you where hoping for that your fresh out of luck! Your rewards are Smart Points and you also gain free entries into prize draws.
There are other aspects to the site as it stands today.
Two educational video libraries, Free Software, Bargain finder so you can source out shopping deals online in one place instead of running all over the net trying to save some money on a product. Games, top sites & multiple search engines.
The libraries are actually not to bad. Handy for most people. The software well its standard stuff you can find online with a bit of searching so again only handy to have all in one place if your into free software for your computer. The games are old fashioned. More like an arcade of years gone by.
This shot below shows you what this social site looks like right now. You can see my point quite clearly regarding no social setup.
The blue bar you see at the bottom of the image is called their Dynamic Bar that follows you on your computer where ever you go online. Gives you access to the HPP features like the Games, Top Sites, Bargain finder etc. It is also so the adverts are still showing. You can see an advert banner to the right there. That’s part of the paid program and where free members click to be rewarded with smart points. That hasn’t started yet either! To have the Dynamic Bar showing up always, you need to Install their Add-on (browser extension) which I did then removed when my pc was coming up with Memory shortage message. The Add-on is to heavy. Don’t use it till its fixed!!
As I mentioned above I did attend a live webinar (by the way no questions are able to be asked!) its just a webinar showing their paid members the business side and what’s coming to the social site.
There is a new version coming but no time frames have been given. From what I saw this is when the social bits and pieces you expect in a social site will be added.
It also has a new design or layout where all the social parts are front and center. What you see in the image above has all been placed into a side menu you can access. Looks better as you don’t need to see most of that stuff every single day. Would soon give you the S**Ts
The social areas you will have as you can see from the screenshot above basically seem a mix of different social sites out there. Smart Mail is the email setup. Smart Chat where as you can tell you can chat to your friends. Smart Chirp same type of deal as Twitter or FB status updates. Global friends finder so you can hook up with your friends there same as FB. Add info to your member profile and they have an Avatar and virtual home system coming, great for kids but I think I am to old for that LOL.
Talking of kids, that is one thing that seems to be apparent, it is family friendly. You can’t knock that in this day n age online!
Smart Point Store – now this is where free members get to spend their points. HPP will have their own shop of products you can buy. What type of points though are we looking at here. You won’t get much for a few hundred points from a screenshot i was able to see on that webinar. But there was nothing really stupid either like 100s of 1000s of points for one thing. Time will tell though on how good that store will really be.
Free members also get 25 smart points when they invite others to join on their own link. Now getting your link is not what your used to either. No email is sent when you join. Well none came to me. No welcome mat hit my inbox unlike every other social site on the planet! Instead they have a welcome page and this is where you will find your link, so be warned you need to see this. Also anyone who wants to upgrade, you need to check that welcome page for your sponsor as no glaring UPGRADE button can be found! Strange because how many web2.0 sites have that glaring at us… plenty that i have seen!
In the shot above see bottom centre, that is where new games are coming. I have seen two games shown on the webinar. One is a space alien type game and reminds me of the Bejeweled game that you can play on FB or get an app for your phone. The other game was more interesting. A discovery adventure game where you can unlock objects like computers, cash and holidays that you will be able to win. So whats the catch. You need to find them and I could be wrong but you may need to be first! For me not being a “gamer” i will need all the luck in the world and then some.
